Leaders with Bat and Ball so far in 2013

With only a dozen or so games left to play across the Senior section of the club we’ll take a look at the overall leaders with bat and ball. This season has seen an overall improvement in averages and cumulative totals with both bat and ball. We’ll just take a quick look at the top five players in a few categories with bat and ball.

First off we take a look at the highest total runs. Naeem Shahzad tops the list at the minute and, while it is still possible, it seems highly unlikely he will be overtaken. Polly and Massa represent the 1st XI while Mike Godwin holds off Matt Gregg for 2nd place at the minute.

Next we come to batting averages and we see two players boasting an average of over 50. There is also a decent split in terms of Youth and experience in the top five. Ian Anders has progressed superbly this season and is by far the youngest member of the top five while South African import, Branem Adams, also keeps the average age down. At the other end of the scale we have seasoned campaigners Aidan Chester and Grant White. Matt Gregg is top of the pile just ahead of Aidan Chester after having a super season with the bat that has seen him amass over 500 runs.

When it comes to taking wickets it has been the young guns leading the way from the old stagers. Branem Adams tops the list by a decent margin and he can reflect on a successful sojourn to Ireland as he appears in the top five in batting and bowling. Ben White has had another fine season chalking up over 30 wickets. Dad’s Army are in hot pursuit with Willie Clarke, Aidan Chester and John Anders rounding out the top five.

Finally we come to economy rate. While taking wickets is always a big factor in any game of cricket the fact that club cricket is limited overs means that a bowler drying up runs at one end can exert extreme pressure regardless of whether or not wickets are falling. It should be noted that this category is the one most open to instant change between now and the end of the season though! That said, all the top five have done supremely well to keep their respective rates under 4 an over. However Hashmi Khan is the clear leader with a stingy 2.10 rpo since being brought into the 5th XI attack and he has played no small part in getting them back in the mix for promotion.
