A report on U15’s first league game away to Clontarf

Just time before work starts to add a quick report from yesterdays U15A league match away to Clontarf. Thanks to Albert Fahy for the details which Evan Chester filled in for me last night!

A scorching day in Castle Avenue, Evan lost the toss and Clontarf decided to field first. Stephen Black and Sankeerth fell cheaply to leave Phoenix in a tough spot but there were more signs that this group of players are getting a little older and a little more resilient. Marc Braxil and James Mc Donagh got stuck in and dug Phoenix out of the early trouble. Marc scored 74 and James scored 59 as Phoenix looked to set a competitive score. With only a few overs left Evan (11) Adam Gibson McKenna (17) and Adam Fahy (3 not out) pushed Phoenix to 183 off their 35 overs.

Castle Avenue is a great place to bat and Clontard looked very solid reaching 116 for 3 in just 18 overs. However the bioys never gave up and after 22 overs Clontarf were 148-6 after 22 overs. More wickets fell as the runs ticked by and despite losing their 7th , 8th and 9th wicket Clontarf only need 12 runs off the last 8 overs. After this the details get sketchy but somehow the Phoenix boys battled hard and got the game to the last over. Clontarf reached their target (9 wickets down) with the first ball of the 35th over. Phoenix bowlers battle hard Sankeerth 2-10 Stephen Black 2-22 and wickets spread around the rest. A good and closely fought contest but Coach Anderson and the skipper agreed that the Phoenix fielding and catching needs to improve in order to get over the line in these close games! But well done Marc and James for some excellent batting!

Keep working lads!
