Phoenix Ladies Stats to 8 July 2015

The ladies section entered 2 teams in the LCU League this year for the first time since 1998. The firsts captained by Hannah McGuckin moved up to division 2 while the newly formed second team captained by Kate Voice are in division 3. Each team has now played 6 games this season. The firsts have won 1 and lost 5 but have put up some competitive performances in the games they have lost and are coping well with the higher standard of play in this division. The seconds have won 3 and lost 3 and have a good mix of experienced heads and youth players who are being given the opportunity to participate in adult cricket.

Looking at the statistics so far 21 players have batted (12 adults and 9 youths) and 14 have bowled (5 adults and 9 youths).

Batting

We have scored a total of 769 runs (excluding extras) with 62 boundary 4’s and 2 6’s – one by Sarah McIntosh in Trinity and one by Karinda Tolland in Merrion. There has been only 1 50 and that was Sarah McIntosh’s 55 not out on a cold April evening in Trinity.

Other scores over 35 were Vanessa Kelada’s match winning 41 not out in Clontarf for the firsts only victory so far, Ali Keenan’s 39 not out v North Kildare, Kate Voice’s 37 not out in a second match v North Klidare and Vanessa’s 36 v Pembroke.

Skipper of the seconds Kate has lead from the front by scoring 90 runs in 5 innings without yet being out and her average of 49 so far from batting on both teams is by far the highest. Next best averages are Sarah McIntosh on 25 and Vanessa Kelada on 22.6

Bowling

We have taken 41 wickets at an average of 26.24 and an overall economy rate of 4.97. Top wicket taker so far this season is Maisie Lunson with 7 wickets at an average of 23.86. Both Deirdre Fahy and Vanessa Kelada have taken 6 wickets and there are 5 each for Chloe Morris and Ali Keenan.

The best bowling figures are for Chloe Morris in Merrion (a division 2 game) where she took 3 for 21 in her 5 overs. Also notable is Deirdre Fahy’s 2 for 5 in 4 overs v North Kildare and Eleanor Doherty’s 2 for 11 off 5 overs v Greystones.

All in all the season is going well and the Phoenix ladies are building a good foundation for the future.
