Sunday 08.05.10

A tough day all round…

(1) 11’A played the Hills. It was a very young side but they played very well –  59 for only 3 wickets after 20 overs

The Hills side were very good in the field and we just couldn’t get the ball past them enough-but at least we held onto our wickets!

When it was our turn to field we put in a very solid performance restricting the Hills to 70-4 (Evan Battersby got 2 wickets, Adam Fahy and Ed Vincent 1 each)

For such a young side- a good performance

(Ed Vincent, Adam Fahy,Adam Gibson-McKenna, Evan Chester, Orla Martin, Tom and  Alex Watson worth mentioning!)

(2) 13’A played at home to Malahide yesterday with a lot of players missing

But all out for 37 they never gave themselves a chance-with some “poor” shot selection and most guys trying to copy the world 20/20 on tv

Malahide got the runs within a few overs so prtetty poor all round even though 5 players were missing- we should be a bit more competitive.

Saturday & Sunday 22nd-23rd May

U11a v North Kildare – Good tight bowling and fielding by all the team. Very close, tense final few overs saw Phoenix just miss out on the chase to win – well done to everyone.

U13a v North County - Good bowling and fielding by all the team especially Dev Dismore who created his usual havoc with superb fielding and two run outs with direct hits from the boundary! Again, very close but Phoenix just missed out – we didn’t score quite enough runs when we batted.

Saturday & Sunday 26th-27th June

U11A vs. Clontarf

A good performance by the long suffering U11’a against a very good Clontarf side!
We fielded first and restricted Clontarf to 91-4. (Nett 71) Wickets for Evan Chester, Evan Battersby, Ian Anders and Andrew Boyd. Only 8 extras! Batting was a bit more difficult as we gave away a few more wickets to get within 20  of our target- Clontarf were a very good bowling side!

U13A v Terenure (Cup Quarter Final)

We lost the toss and had to bat first. A steady start was ruined by a bit of scary running which resulted in Hersch being run out. Adam Chester however knuckled down and scored 38 not out including 6 boundaries (Compliments to the Groundsman as the ball was racing across the outfield- we were playing on the record winning track from the day before!) Scoring proved a bit tighter after Adam retired but Dev Dismore scored a quick 14 to lift the total to 93 for 6 at the end of 20 overs.

Terenure were confidently going along but lost wickets at key times. Phoenix never gave up even when scoring was quick and eventually won by 25 runs. The bowlers were economical Adam Chester getting 4-14 off 4 overs, Ibaad Khan got 2-12 off 4 overs,Rory Anders getting 1-2 off 2 overs. Adam Chester took a good catch and the side was generally sharp in the field. Special mention for Jack O’Neill who took a good catch off Adam Chester to get rid of Terenure’s best player Michael Fogarty when he was threatening to win the game for the away team.

Phoenix reward is a semi-final against Leinster at home the weekend of the 10th or 11th July!
