The weekend highlight was of course the 4th X1, captained by Michael Brown, bringing the first silverware to the club in four years. A fantastic acheivement by the entire team. Also on Sunday the 2nd X1 continued it’s resurgance in the league with a facile 10 wicket victory over Belvedere.
Saturday was not quite so successful for the 1st X1 after not making use of a decent start with the bat and subsequently going down to Pembroke at home. This in spite of the efforts of Conor Kelly who put in a great shift contributing 45 runs with the bat before giving us a sniff of victory by ripping out Pembroke’s top order with a spell of 10-3-18-5. All this being watched by a slowly rotating pig. Saturday night was a wonderful night, the weather was perfect and the club was full to bursting. A huge thankyou to David Ford, Kate Dismore and all the other organisers of a tremendous event.
Back to the cricket and the 3rd X1 had a mixed weekend with a great victory on Saturday but then going down on Sunday. A debut hundred from Asim Nazir being the highlight from the game on Saturday!
Note: it’s been great to see some former Phoenix and Irish cricketing legends back around the club of late. Alfie Masood, Mike Halliday and former President Eoin O’Brien among others have been down enjoying some really good cricket in the park and it’s exciting for the current crop of young players to have them around.
