This season the club will announce it’s Player of the Month after the final set of fixtures for that month are played. The award is open to all players, of all ages and all grades. So from the under 11’s to the First XI to the Ladies team everybody is eligible to get the nod. The award winner will be chosen by our panel of (ahem) experts and posted up here in recognition of their performance over the month.
While there were some contenders for the award this month the winner was never in doubt. Vish Vaidyanthan’s ton helped his side to victory in a massive run chase and in another month that might have been enough but there has been one player who has excelled right from ball one of innings one of the season.
Marc Gibson-McKenna opened the season with 8-2-23-2 against Merrion for the 5th XI. He followed that up with 50* in his teams reply. After such a fine start it was hard to imagine that things would only continue to get better but they did!
With the T20 competitions rolling into action in the past fortnight Marc has really started to stand out. For the 5th XI he came up with figures of 5-1-7-2. He then made an unbeaten 19 to lead his side out of a middle order collapse and home to a comfortable 4 wicket victory.
On the back of that he was selected on the 4th XI for the Whelan Cup where he produced figures (from 8 ball overs) of 4-0-20-4. He was the standout bowler on the night and that did not go unnoticed as he was immediately called into the 3rd XI for their YM Salver game at home to Old Belvedere.
Last night he produced a staggering 4.5-0-23-5 as he helped bowl his side to victory. It has been a superb month for Marc and he is fully deserving of the Player of the Month Award for his achievements.
