Phoenix players on form in South Africa

The three Phoenix representatives in the LCU U-16 squad in South Africa have been in fine form on tour so far. Rory Anders, Ben White and Marc Gibson McKenna all made the panel and have produced some fine performances so far.

The LCU made a disappointing start in their first warm up game as they lost a low scoring 35 over encounter against Grey College as they came up 26 runs short chasing 122.

However, since then, they’ve been in much better form. In their second and final warm up game, against Muir College, they registered their first win. The LCU posted 180-7 in 45 overs. Muir looked like they might chase the total but the LCU fought back well and bowled them out of 177 with 5 balls left to seal a tense 3 run win.

The Independent Schools Cricket Festival kicked off on Friday and Leinster took on St John’s College. They posted a solid 207 after batting first with Rory scoring 65 and Ben chipping in with 22. St John’s were 71-3 in reply when lightning stopped play, though, and the game ended in a draw.

Earlier this morning they took on Clifton School and posted a massive 304-6 off their 50 overs. Rory smashed 100 to help Leinster on their way. Clifton struggled to chase the total down and ended up 142 runs short. Ben took 3-25 and Marc took 2-21 to help secure an emphatic victory.

Tomorrow they take on Michaelhouse from Durban in their last 50 over encounter of the tour before a couple of T20 matches round things out on Monday.

A big congratulations to the lads on their efforts so far from everyone at the club and we wish them all the best in the remaining games!
