With the first month of the season under our belts it cannot be let pass without making mention of the massive impact our Youth players have had in Senior cricket throughout the grades. A lot of hard work has been done by many people at the club to expand our Youth Section and it continues to excel year on year.
The opening five weeks of the season has seen some superb achievements from our young players. Eoin Cleere has made the progression through the ranks and has opened the batting for the First XI this season. While Tom Anders has snapped up 10 wickets already as well as posting a half century in a representative match for the Southern u-17’s.
Adam Chester led the 3rd XI to victory with his maiden senior half century at the weekend showing all the poise and class that has been developed through his time at the club. The first of many, many more to come no doubt.
Marc Gibson-McKenna also posted his first senior half century as well as snapping up plenty of wickets to boot. Ben White has taken back-to-back four wicket hauls in his opening two league outings as well as posting an unbeaten 19 to lead the 4th XI side to a dramatic last ball victory away to Malahide.
Michael Fahy has been in superb form with the ball also and produced some excellent death bowling in the LCU 20/20 Cup. While Andrew Fox just last weekend picked up his first ever senior wicket.
The future is looking bright at the club with so many fine Youth players. Although maybe not so much for some of us older players as we’re all now looking over our shoulders at the young players coming through. Long may it continue!
