The Leprechaun Cup, Leinster crickets premier schools competition, comes to a climax this Thursday as Castleknock NS take on Star of the Sea (Sandymount) in the final at Pembroke Cricket Club at 12 midday. Castleknock have made it to their first final thanks in no small part to the many fine Phoenix Youth players in their ranks.
The players participation for club and school has been mutually beneficial this season as the Youth section and Phoenix has made a fantastic start to the year under the guidance of their various coaches while Castleknock NS now find themselves within touching distance of the coveted Leprechaun Cup title.
The competitions final shake up to decide the title match took place over the last couple of weeks with Phoenix players to the fore for Castleknock CS. James McDonough took 5 for 4 and Adam Gibson-McKenna took 3 for 2 in an 8 wicket victory over St John Bosco.
Then in their regional final clash against Milverton Ian Anders posted an unbeaten 60 as Castleknock NS set a target of 120. It was a hard fought game and Milverton did run them close but James McDonough once again came good with the ball and collected 4 for 19 as Castleknock got home by 17 runs.
That set up their clash with Star of the Sea which will take place at 12 midday at Sydney Parade this Thursday. We’d encourage anyone who can make it to get along and give all our boys and girls, and their team mates, their support for this big occasion!
