After a recent request for some player stats we’re going to be releasing some interesting (it’s all relative!) statistics from the season so far up to June 16th. We’ll start with the batting side of things this evening and have a look at the top batsmen across each five teams and the players heading the clubwide averages and topping the run scoring charts.

Conor Kelly has been blazing a trail of late for the 1st XI but the most eye catching player with the bat overall is without doubt Matt Gregg. Matt has somehow managed to find himself top of the averages for both the 3rd and 4th XI while also coming in 4th overall in runs scored.

Apologies to the Ladies Team who have not been included in the analysis as the club statistician has not received their completed scorecards

The 1st XI have been fairing a bit better of late after a sluggish start to the season. Skipper, Conor Kelly, has chipped in with a 94* and 110 in recent weeks and comfortably tops the averages and aggregate runs table. The 1st XI are also averaging 21.06 runs per wicket.

The 2nd XI have seen the least action of any of the teams at the club. Their recent win in the league saw them storm from in and around the relegation places to in the promotion mix in a single bound. Tom Anders 71* not out in that game sees him top of the charts in both categories. Phil Keane looked well set to have a strong season with the 2nd XI but he’s made an early departure back to the antipodies. The 2nd XI average 24.94 runs per wicket.

Matt Gregg is top of the averages in the 3rd XI with limited opportunity. He ranks only 4th in the total runs scored but with only three knocks to his name some more game time on the 3rd XI and a little bump up the batting orders should see him coming on strong. Sajeed Zaidi and Sayed Shah have been very consistent and look set to have good seasons as well. The 3rd XI average 15.83 runs per wicket.

Skipper Mike Godwin has been having a good season with the bat for the 4th XI but once again it’s might Matt Gregg setting the pace despite only having two knocks to his name. Greggy has filled his boots so far for the 4th XI and will continue to do so if selected and don’t be surprised to see him smash a big ton at some stage if he does. The 4th XI average 30.94 runs per wicket.

On the 5th XI there have been a few players chipping in with the bat so much so that stalwarts Mooney and Maginnis don’t appear in the top five of the average. Aidan Chester has been in imperious form this season and is by far the standout. He hasn’t yet posted a half century but it’s only a matter of time before he put’s that stat right! The 5th XI average 23.57 runs per wicket.

So the overall top 10 Batting Averages at the club have a nice even spread of players from across all the grades. Three players are over 50.00 so far this season with the rest above 25.00. There is no surprise to see the likes of Conor Kelly, Syed Ali and Aidan Chester showing prominently. However messers Lunson, Moore and Anders the Elder have all shown good form so far to upset the apple cart.

Averages are good indicator of the consistency of a batsman over an extended period of time but we’ll finish with a look at the players who’ve accumulated the most runs so far regardless of average. There is a long season ahead and plenty of runs to be had so the list is sure to change greatly before the seasons end.
