Phoenix Cricket Club are delighted to announce that current Irish International and Leinster Lightening stalwart Simi Singh will be joining the club for the 2019 season.
Speaking on behalf of Phoenix, Chair of Cricket Emmet Staunton said “Phoenix are so pleased to welcome Simi to the club. One of the top performers in Irish Cricket he brings a dedication, professionalism and all around talent that will benefit the entire club. A proven performer on the field Simi will prove as invaluable off the field in helping us develop cricketers and build sustained success”.
Simi has 20 caps for Ireland scoring two half centuries and taking 19 wickets. He joins Phoenix from YMCA where he scored 4,589 runs at 48.31 and took 203 wickets at 17.14.
Speaking from Oman where he’s representing Ireland in the Quadrangular Series Simi said, “I’m really delighted to join Phoenix CC as I’ve always enjoyed playing out in the park and I think on a nice summers day there’s no better place for a game of cricket with all it’s surroundings and crowd. Also the club being close to the Abbotstown National Sports Centre it was an easy decision to make for me.
I’m really looking forward to the start of the season and getting to know everyone at Phoenix. Also looking forward to working with the younger players at the club to share my experiences and hopefully help them improve their skills alongside the Head Coach Stephen Moreton whose appointment I think is a very progressive step for Phoenix.”
On welcoming Simi to the club Director of Cricket Stephen Moreton said “When I agreed to join Phoenix at the end of 2018 – I don’t think I, or anyone at the club could imagine we’d be going into the season with two of the most exciting current Irish Internationals, at their peak – as part of our 1st team men’s squad. It is a huge step forward for the club in many ways, that Simi has agreed to join us – he has been one of the leading domestic cricketers in all formats, with all of his disciplines for some time now – and it is a wonderful opportunity for the younger core of the club to look at Simi and James Shannon and see what it takes to play at the top level. I am excited about what Simi will bring to the team, and to the club in general – he provided so much to YMCA, and if he can replicate that at Phoenix it will be wonderful for the club.”
