Strong Phoenix showing in Ireland Youth Squads

The New Year has kicked off well for Phoenix with the announcement of the Ireland Youth training squads last week. Thanks to a lot of hard work by committees, coaches and parents alike the youth section at Phoenix has come on leaps and bounds in recent years and shows no sign of stopping. The recent squad announcements see no fewer than five Phoenix players called to colours for 2013.

Tom Anders continues his climb through the Ireland ranks as he has been selected at under 19 level only two years on from being captain of the under 15 side. Rory Anders gets the nod for the under 15’s while Ian Anders makes it a hat trick by being selected on the under 13 panel. There was, sadly, no call up for John so a full house was not quite achieved by the Anders clan.

Marc Gibson-McKenna and Sim Singh also feature on the under 15’s panel after impressive seasons last year. Hollywood in particular had a very strong season starting the season scoring 50 for the Fifth XI and ending it having risen all the way to the top side in the club and collecting a couple of wickets for the First XI.

Everyone at Phoenix wishes the lads the very best for club, province and country in 2013!
