The Cricket Committee- a message from Chair of Cricket David Ensor

Dear Club members,

“I am often asked what the Chair of Cricket does at Phoenix and before the 2015 season gets under way I thought that I’d share with members what the cricket committee is responsible for and how that relates to what I hope will be an exciting season ahead at Phoenix Cricket Club.”

The Cricket Committee is that branch of the executive specifically charged with co-ordinating the cricket playing side of the club at all levels senior, junior, ladies and youth. The chairman of the committee is elected at the annual general meeting by the clubs members. Once elected the chair in conjunction with the club executive appoints members of the cricket committee on an annual basis. This years committee , chaired by me (David Ensor) will comprise Executive Manager Aaron Joseph and the Head of Youth Cricket Alan Maginnis. The committee always reserve the right to co-opt any other member (s) to the committee should circumstances warrant same. The main responsibilities of the cricket committee are

  • the recruitment of and setting the employment terms of the coaching staff and the players/coaching staff
  • the setting up of selection committees for all cricket areas of the club
  • convening formal monthly meetings during the season with the coaches, captains and any other relevant personnel to ensure that the practice facilities are available to members and that practice is organised accordingly to ensure that all players are properly prepared for all cricket played at the club including competitive league and cup matches. This applies to the Mens 1st XI but equally also to all other sides in the club
  • In 2015 we are placing a particular emphasis on ensuring the implementation of player path provisions for the integration of both boys and girls into the senior men’s and ladies teams respectively.

I am looking forward to seeing how our teams fare this summer and look forward to seeing you all at our club to support and encourage our players. If you have any queries on any cricket matter please do not hesitate to contact me during the season!
