This report just in from local radio station Phoenix FM 95.2 who were tweeting and reporting on today’s local derby between Castleknock College and Castleknock Community College- even Cricket Ireland were re-tweeting this keenly awaited fixture in the Leinster Senior Schools League.
The Castleknock College Cricket Ground (CCCG) or as the boys now call it the “G” -is Phoenix’s second home and is quickly earning a reputation for being the “nicest second ground” in Leinster Cricket.Phoenix members will be pleased to know that our 4th XI, 5th XI, 6th XI and our Ladies sides will be playing there this year. Anyway enough of the pre amble and down to the report which featured on Phoenix FM’s sports news this evening as Phoenix schoolboy members Rory and Ian Anders travelled the short distance to face Castleknock College and fellow Phoenix members Adam and Evan Chester and Louis McDonagh- here’s the report and the picture’s including one of the new scoreboard recently donated by Michael Brown President of Phoenix CC.
A cracking day and a cracking local cricket derby at the CCG between Castleknock College and Castleknock Community College – CCC won the toss and chose to bat first in a 20 over game. Rory and Ian Anders got CCC off to a flying start reaching 60 odd after 6 overs. The CCC innings stuttered once Jack Kerrison and Adam Chester got going with Chester claiming valuable bragging rights getting the prized wicket of Rory Anders.CCC finished their innings posting a chase of 103 for the win. Castleknock College were in it and then out of it as despite a score of 30 odd from Chester there was a lot left to be done with only a few overs to go. It came right down to the wire with the home side winning by 1 wicket, scoring the winning run in the 19th over. Cricket was the overall winner today, a belter of a game, well done to both sides who had everyone at the edge of their seats!
